Wanna know what WSU head coach Ron McBride was thinking following Weber State’s 24-23 loss at Colorado State on Saturday? When t Wildcats were one play away from kicking a potential game-winning field goal from less than 30 yards but then quarterback Cameron Higgins fumbled the snap on third down and the Rams recovered with 42 seconds left in the game, escaping with the one-point win.
Well, here’s McBride’s quick thoughts.
“It was our game to win. I mean they made one play in the second half, period. It was our game to win, period. That’s all I’ve got to say. Stupid. You can’t take a quarterback exchange when you’re trying to get right in the middle. You throw a pick on the screen. We got two chances to put this game away. We can’t kick an extra point and a chip-shot field goal. The team played their butts off.”
After I asked him about the defensive performance, McBride had another lengthy rant.
“The defense studded up, particularly in the second half. I’m telling you what, Colorado State’s offensive line is excellent and so is their defensive line. I’m proud of teh way these guys played because they rose to the occasion. They didn’t take a backward step from anyone. I’m disgusted because this opportunity doesn’t come around all the time. That’s a game we sghould have won. It’s our game, period. If anybody’s got a different opinion, they’re wrong.”
