POLS 1100 - Sorry about Friday! I had let Jen and the secretary know about how sick I was but I guess they didn’t post a sign, my apologies! My fault entirely! Don’t forget this week we will do Parties and Media and play Voting Rights. We can do Coalition Building next Monday or after spring break, we’ll have time, we will decide that today. Also, an extra credit assignment is available to you. On Wednesday, March 4th at 6pm, Elisabeth Bumiller is coming to speak on campus about Women in Politics in SU 404. If you attend, you will earn 5 points extra credit on Exam 2.

POLS 3990 - This week we will finish qualitative analysis (this is a change to the syllabus) doing chapters 9 and 10. We will not have class on the 4th - due to a speaker coming that I am arranging - so you can take the time to write your methodology.

Week 7

February 18th, 2009 by lmurray

POLS 1100 - Don’t forget that we will be doing interest groups and political parties will shift until next week. Also, I have posted on the website the exam questions so you can take a look at them. Finally, I couldn’t get into school yesterday so I was unable to finish grading your essays, I will have them for you on Friday.

POLS 3990 - I had planned a full day of grading yesterday but was unable, due to the weather, to get into the office. I am going to try to get your lit reviews back to you by tonight, but if not, I’ll have them by Friday and you can pick them up. Also, the Methodology will be due a week later as well, March 6th. And, I forgot to post this a hundred years ago, Kjerstin’s email is kjerstinmyers@mail.weber.edu. Sorry Kjerstin!

Remember you can only do one National Journal choice.

POLS 3990 - this week your literature review is due, Friday by 3pm. If you would like me to take a look at your methodology or hypothesis, send it along in an email, and I will be happy to do that for you.

1100

January 30th, 2009 by lmurray

Exam 1 is posted for POLS 1100 - it is on chi tester now, so I think you could take it over the weekend. To be clear, there are 12 questions posted. You choose 6 from the first 10 and 1 from the final 2. I am unclear whether these instructions, which are on the test, will be obvious to you. For the ones you are not selecting, just write no answer.

Week 4

January 28th, 2009 by lmurray

Hello all -

POLS 1100 - you have an exam coming up next week, start studying! Also - make use of extra credit opportunities. Don’t forget, they can take the place of bad quizzes or a missed game. Or they will be averaged in to your quiz grade.

POLS 3990 - change in date. your literature review is due in two weeks, sorry the syllabus is off by 2 weeks because I originally had you writing 4 papers. So, your literature review is due February 13th.

SI Emails

January 19th, 2009 by lmurray

Hello students, here are the emails for your SI:

For 1100 - Jen Watts: jenniferwatts1@mail.weber.edu

For 3990 - Kjerstin Myers: kjerstinmyers@weber.edu

Be nice to them and only send emails for class related stuff!

Week 3

January 19th, 2009 by lmurray

Hello all! Happy Martin Luther King Day!

For 1100 - if you would like, you can watch the inauguration tomorrow and write a Get Involved essay reflecting on the event. This would be in lieu of one of the other essays for this third. Good job on the game on Friday. My understanding is there was a little confusion - if the ENTIRE class survived, meaning, all 7 teams survived all 3 rounds, then all students would get an extra 5 points credit. I realize there was some confusion on this - but as Madison was killed instantly, it was not a possibility after about 2 minutes. Smile. See you Wednesday!

For 3990 - get together with your teams and think about what question you might want to ask and get started reading some literature. I will show you how to do this Wednesday night - but if you’d like, you can get started by going to the library catalog and seeing what they have on networking and politics. See you Wednesday night!

Week 2

January 14th, 2009 by lmurray

Hello all -

For 1100 - I am having issues getting my set of power point slides for you to Kinko’s, I will do it tomorrow. Yesterday I had a series of emergency meetings come up and was unable to make the time. All of the slides are on the website - so you can download them. This week we will play our first game. Wednesday we will get into teams.

For 3990 - all the power point slides are up on the website. This week you have HW 1 due and we will be heading to the computer lab for classwork 2.
